Every state has its own system for accident insurance in government buses. However, there is no uniform policy across the country.
Nominal charges included in the ticket: For example, in Uttar Pradesh (UP) Roadways, passengers are charged a small insurance charge (₹1) as part of their bus ticket.
Compensation amount: In case of an accident involving a UP Roadways bus, passengers are eligible for compensation of up to ₹5 lakh.
Fare-based insurance contribution: Generally, a minimum of 50 paise to ₹2.50 is included in the fare for insurance, depending on the distance and fare amount.
Compensation in case of injury or death: Even though no specific insurance system is highlighted, many state governments provide ex-gratia compensation to victims of road accidents involving public transport.
