Big news: Nothing's masterstroke, CMF will now form its own Indian company

Under this new arrangement, the headquarters of CMF will be in India, and its majority ownership will remain with Indians.

Nothing will now be an Indian company.

Carl Pei, founder of the renowned London-based consumer tech brand "Nothing," has made a major and historic announcement regarding the Indian tech market. Nothing's popular sub-brand, "CMF" (CMF by Nothing), is separating from Nothing to become an independent, fully Indian company.

Now it is India's turn to follow the lines of China and Korea.

Carl Pei, while announcing this change on social media, wrote that when countries like China, Japan, and Korea began mass-producing consumer electronics, they gave the world major global brands. India has now become the world's second-largest smartphone manufacturer and has the world's youngest population and the best software talent. However, India does not yet have a major global consumer electronics brand of its own, but this is about to change.

Research and design will be done in India itself.

Pei says that any company needs strong research and development (R&D) to be sustainable. CMF will no longer be limited to assembly in India; instead, the design, engineering, and research of its products will be handled by its in-house team. The company aims to make these products 100 times larger globally than they are in India.

Indians will have a majority stake.

Under this new arrangement, CMF will be headquartered in India and majority-owned by Indians. Nothing will remain a shareholder and partner in this new Indian company. The company believes this move will play a key role in positioning India as the next global leader in consumer electronics.

Understand the whole thing in points.

CMF will now be different from Nothing: it will no longer be just a sub-brand of a foreign brand, but will be majority-owned by Indians and headquartered in India.

Manufacturing and Research (R&D) will be done in India: Now CMF products will not only be assembled in India, but their design and engineering (R&D) will also be done in India by the Indian team.

Nothing will remain only a partner: 'Nothing' company will remain associated with it only as a shareholder and partner.

The reason: Carl Pei believes India is poised to become the next global electronics hub, like China, Japan, and Korea, but India currently lacks a global consumer electronics brand. CMF will fill that gap.
