Big news for SBI customers! Online IMPS transactions will now be charged. What are the new rules?
State Bank of India: The country's largest public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI), has revised its customer transaction charges. If you have an account with SBI, this is important news for you.
The bank has announced a service charge for online transactions made through IMPS (Immediate Payment Service). This could impact the daily banking of many users. However, this charge will only apply to transactions exceeding ₹25,000. Small digital payments will remain free as before.
What will be the new IMPS charges of SBI?
Until now, there was no charge for sending money online from an SBI account via IMPS. However, under the new rules, customers will be required to pay a service charge for transferring amounts exceeding ₹25,000 via IMPS. As the transaction amount increases, the charge will also be adjusted accordingly.
If you are an SBI account holder and make a transaction of Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh through IMPS, the fee will be ₹2 + GST. Sending an amount of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh will cost ₹6 + GST, and sending an amount of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh will cost ₹10 + GST.
This means that the larger the amount sent through IMPS, the higher the cost. However, this charge is not excessive. SBI's new IMPS charge will be effective February 15, 2026. However, if you send an amount up to ₹25,000 through internet banking, mobile banking, or the YONO app, there will be no charge. However, if the amount exceeds this amount, a charge will be levied.
Which customers will get the discount?
However, SBI has not made any changes to the IMPS charges for in-branch transactions. These will remain limited to a range of ₹2 to ₹20 plus GST. Additionally, several special account categories will continue to be exempt from the revised IMPS fees. These include DSP, PMSP, ICSP, CGSP, PSP, and RSP accounts, as well as the Shaurya Family Pension Account and SBI Rishtey Family Savings Account.
ATM and ADWM charges also increased
Additionally, SBI's revised ATM and ADWM charges will be effective from December 1, 2025. Under this, any withdrawal from other banks' ATMs exceeding the free limit will attract a charge of ₹23 plus GST. Salary account holders will continue to receive 10 free transactions per month. Charges on all ATM transactions have been increased for current account holders. However, those with Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts, SBI debit card holders, or Kisan Credit Card accounts are exempt from this increased limit.
