The BCCI has finally cleared the air around the controversial IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was abruptly halted due to a security scare. The original fixture, held in Dharamsala on May 8, was stopped midway following drone attacks in several Indian cities amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions.
🔁 Match Will Restart from Scratch — A Big Setback for Punjab
At the time the game was suspended, Punjab Kings were in complete control:
- Score: 122/1 in 10.1 overs
- Prabhsimran Singh: 50*
- Priyansh Arya: 70 off 34 balls
But instead of resuming the match from the halted point, the BCCI has ruled that the game will be replayed from the beginning, erasing Punjab’s strong performance.
🏟️ New Date and Venue Announced
- New Date: May 24, 2025
- New Venue: Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur
- Reason: Dharamsala has been excluded from the revised list of IPL venues due to its proximity to India’s international border.
😞 Punjab Kings' Season Hit Hard
This is the second major setback for Punjab Kings this season:
- Vs Kolkata Knight Riders – They posted 201/4, but the game was washed out after KKR played just 1 over. Points were split.
- Vs Delhi Capitals – A dominant start was nullified, and now they must start over in Jaipur.
Currently:
- Punjab Kings: 3rd place, 7 wins in 11 games
- Delhi Capitals: 5th place, 6 wins in 11 games
🗨️ Why This Hurts Preity Zinta’s Team
This decision means Punjab will lose:
- The momentum from that match
- A possible run-rate boost
- A likely win that could have secured playoff qualification earlier
While the decision is rooted in safety concerns and fairness, it has sparked debate among fans and analysts who feel Punjab has been unlucky twice this season due to uncontrollable factors.
