Indian players have been suffering from frequent injuries for some time now. Many players returned to the team fit, only to be injured again after a match or two. Now the BCCI has taken action on this issue.
BCCI swung into action after Indian players sustained injuries
Several players on the Indian cricket team are currently injured. The team management is concerned about the continued injuries. Captain Shubman Gill has also raised questions about this. Now, seeing the issue escalate, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken action. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia will meet with Cricket Chief VVS Laxman at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Sunday to review the players' rehabilitation and recovery process.
Jasprit Bumrah (knee swelling), Sai Sudharsan (left toe injury), Harshit Rana (hamstring strain), Nitish Kumar Reddy (hamstring strain), and Washington Sundar (thigh strain) will miss the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to various injuries. Akash Deep (stress fracture) has been out of action for the longest time, having been out since Bengal's Ranji Trophy semifinal defeat.
Additionally, Hardik Pandya (thigh strain), Varun Chakravarthy (hamstring strain), and Prince Yadav (hamstring strain) are also part of the COA, where the sports science team is under significant pressure. This department has been without a head since Nitin Patel resigned in early 2025. The biggest challenge right now is getting all these players fully fit and back on the field as soon as possible.
A BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity, "Yes, Secretary Saikia will be in Bengaluru along with VVS Laxman to take stock of the situation. A meeting is scheduled between the two. It is not yet known whether national team head coach Gautam Gambhir or selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar will join the meeting online. Amidst so much speculation, it will be interesting to see whether Saikia and Laxman are able to face and answer some of the media questions."
The selection committee also disagreed with Harshit Rana's alleged overweight appearance upon his arrival in England. Similarly, the selection committee was initially told that Bumrah and Sudarshan would be available for at least one of the two Test matches. However, after clarification, it was discovered that Bumrah's knee was suffering from water retention following the injury, which would require a longer recovery time.
