Amidst IPL 2025 action, Ravichandran Ashwin has announced that his YouTube channel will no longer feature any content related to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) matches. Until now, Ashwin had been posting previews and post-match analysis of CSK games, but the decision to pull the plug seems to be a fallout of a recent controversy that flared up on social media.
What Sparked the Uproar?
The storm began during a YouTube show hosted around a CSK match, where South African and RCB analyst Prasanna Egoram criticized CSK’s team selection. Specifically, he questioned the decision to include Noor Ahmad over seasoned campaigners like Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Though the video was taken down shortly after, the remarks had already made waves online. The backlash caught the attention of fans and, reportedly, the franchise itself.
CSK Head Coach Stephen Fleming Reacts
In the aftermath of CSK’s 25-run loss to Delhi Capitals, head coach Stephen Fleming was asked about the YouTube controversy. His response was clear-cut and dismissive:
"I don’t even know Ashwin has a YouTube channel. This is all useless talk."
Fleming’s curt dismissal may have added fuel to the fire, prompting Ashwin and his team to take a firm step.
Official Announcement: CSK Coverage Ends
On April 6, a note appeared on Ashwin’s YouTube channel, stating that CSK matches would no longer be covered. The message clarified that opinions expressed by guests on the channel do not reflect Ashwin’s personal views, likely an attempt to separate the cricketer’s professional role from the content of the platform.
Conflict of Interest?
Ashwin’s decision also stems from a larger concern—he is currently a player for CSK in IPL 2025, having been bought by the franchise for ₹9.75 crore. In such a scenario, analyzing or critiquing matches involving his own team could be viewed as a conflict of interest, potentially leading to controversy or misinterpretation.
To avoid any such issues, Ashwin seems to have chosen the responsible route by stepping away from CSK-related content entirely.
