What is Cushing's syndrome?

Cushing's syndrome occurs when cortisol hormone levels remain high in the body for a long time. Cortisol, also known as the stress hormone, helps the body cope with stress. However, its excess can cause many problems.

Excess cortisol hormone and Cushing's syndrome can cause the patient to have a thick hump, a very round face and pink or purple stretch marks on the skin. Cushing's syndrome also increases the risk of high blood pressure or bone damage. It can also increase the risk of type-2 diabetes.

Why does this problem occur?

Cushing's syndrome is caused by too much cortisol in the body. Cortisol is a hormone produced in the adrenal glands. 

• Cushing's syndrome may also occur in people taking glucocorticoid medications. These drugs are often used to treat asthma, allergies, and certain skin problems, as well as reducing inflammation in the body and suppressing the immune system.
• Some other types of tumors, including adrenal cortical tumors, can also cause this problem.

Cushing's syndrome can cause the risk of many types of health problems, there are some symptoms with the help of which it can be known whether you have this problem or not?

• Increase in the size of the face or a hump on the stomach or back of the neck.
• Often problem of high blood pressure (hypertension).
• Excessive hair growth or baldness on the face, neck, chest, stomach, breasts and thighs.
• Purple stretch marks on stomach and skin.
• Often feeling weak and tired.
• Blurred vision and dizziness.
• Obstacles in the development of children.

What to do if you have Cushing's syndrome?

The first goal of treating Cushing's syndrome is to reduce high cortisol levels. If you use glucocorticoids, the doctor may reduce or stop its dose. If a tumor is causing Cushing's syndrome, it may require surgery.
