A potential communal flare-up in Agra was swiftly averted on Friday morning after a severed animal head was discovered outside the historic Jama Masjid just before Friday prayers. The incident sparked immediate outrage and concern among the Muslim community, prompting a swift and high-level police response.
Arrest Made Within Hours
Acting within five hours of the alert, Agra Police arrested Naziruddin alias Kallu, a resident of Kolhai area in Shahganj. The accused was tracked using CCTV footage, and over 100 police personnel were deployed during the operation. According to DCP City Sonam Kumar, the arrest was made swiftly to prevent tensions from escalating.
Suspected Conspiracy to Incite Communal Tension
Preliminary investigations suggest the act may have been an attempt to incite communal unrest. Sources indicate that Naziruddin, who is reportedly mentally unstable, may have been used as a pawn in a larger conspiracy. Officials are currently probing whether others were involved and are digging into the accused's background and possible criminal history.
Security Heightened Around Jama Masjid
With Friday prayers scheduled later that day, authorities took no chances. Additional police forces were deployed in the area, and social media activity is under close surveillance to curb misinformation and rumors.
The mosque management committee, along with police, issued a joint appeal for peace. “Let’s not fall for provocations. The matter is under control, and those responsible will be punished,” said DCP Sonam Kumar.
