Agra Hotel Tragedy: Man Attempts Self-Immolation Over Relationship Dispute

A heartbreaking incident unfolded at a hotel in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where a 30-year-old man attempted to take his own life by setting himself on fire following a dispute with his girlfriend. The woman, who was present at the scene, sustained burn injuries while trying to save him.

The man, identified as Chandrashekhar, reportedly became distraught after learning that his girlfriend's marriage had been arranged elsewhere. The couple had checked into the hotel on Tuesday, posing as husband and wife. Shortly after checking in, the man made distressing demands, asking the woman to call off her arranged marriage in front of her father.

When the woman hesitated, the situation escalated. According to police, Chandrashekhar poured inflammable liquid on himself and ignited it with a matchstick. The woman attempted to douse the flames using a blanket, injuring her hands in the process. Hotel staff and police quickly intervened, and both were taken to a nearby hospital. Chandrashekhar is reported to have suffered 80% burn injuries and remains in critical condition.

Investigations revealed that Chandrashekhar is married with two children. The woman, Neha (name changed), is a divorcee who met Chandrashekhar on social media around a year and a half ago. Their relationship developed during her legal separation, but marriage was not possible due to Chandrashekhar’s existing marital status. Neha's family had recently arranged a new match for her, which reportedly triggered the incident.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and mental health professionals stress the importance of seeking help in emotionally distressing situations rather than resorting to extreme actions.
