The Supreme Court on Friday (August 22, 2025) directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the hearing of the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) case. The Supreme Court said that it should also accept the Aadhaar card along with 11 documents in the SIR process and make this entire process voter-friendly.

The court said, "We will allow those people who were removed from the voter list during SIR in Bihar to file their claim online if they have Aadhaar card or any other acceptable document."
What instructions were given to the Election Commission
The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission (ECI) to provide receipts in exchange for claims submitted by booth level agents (BLAs) of political parties. At the same time, the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Bihar was directed to make political parties parties in the court proceedings and submit a status report regarding the claims.
What did the Supreme Court say to the political parties ?
At the same time, the Supreme Court has asked the political parties to help the voters who have been excluded from the voter list in Bihar and register their claims. The entire process of SIR should be voter-friendly, for this political parties should come forward."
What argument did the Election Commission give in the Supreme Court ?
During the hearing, the Election Commission (ECI) told the Supreme Court, "85 thousand new voters' names appeared in the SIR in Bihar, but the booth level agents (BLA) of political parties lodged only two objections."
