2.  Eating large or heavy meals close to bedtime can slow digestion, which means the stomach takes longer to empty its contents. This increases the likelihood of acid reflux.

How to prevent heartburn?

1.  Celebrity nutritionist Lavneet Batra says that consuming certain foods and drinks before bed, such as fatty or spicy foods, citrus fruits, tomato products, chocolate, caffeine, or carbonated beverages, can relax the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), which normally prevents acid from moving back up, causing heartburn.\

2.  Eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day instead of large meals may help prevent heartburn before bedtime

3.  Identify and avoid foods and drinks that commonly trigger heartburn symptoms, especially close to bedtime.

4.  Try to eat meals at least two to three hours before lying down. This will give your stomach enough time to empty its contents and reduce the chances of acid reflux.

5.  Using pillows or raising the head of the bed can create an angle that helps prevent stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus.

6.  Drink ginger tea to prevent acid from going back into your throat which causes heartburn.
