Mumbai Terrorist Attack: The NIA team is bringing Tahawwur Rana to Delhi by a special plane. He is also likely to be produced in a Delhi court. He was arrested in Chicago in 2009.

Mumbai Terrorist Attack: The NIA is bringing the country's biggest enemy terrorist Tahawwur Hussain Rana from America to Delhi. Tahawwur Rana is now coming to India after trying all legal means to stop his extradition. A special plane carrying Tahawwur has taken off from America on Wednesday (April 9, 2025). Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval.

What will happen to Tehvvur after coming to India?

According to NDTV report, Tahawwur Rana will reach Delhi on Thursday (April 10, 2025), immediately after which the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will arrest him. It is being told that Tahawwur is likely to be produced in a Delhi court. Mumbai Police has not yet been officially told when he will be transferred there.  

This NIA team is bringing Tehvvur

A joint team of NIA and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is bringing him back to India. NIA IG Ashish Batra and DIG Jaya Roy are leading a 7-member team to bring Tahawwur Rana to India. Their team also includes 3 officials from RAW and Ministry of External Affairs. Due to security concerns, the NIA team is bringing Tahawwur Rana by a special plane. After interrogation in Delhi, the NIA will take Tahawwur Rana to Mumbai through transit remand to face trial.

Arrested one year after 26/11 terrorist attack

David, the main accused in the 26/11 terror attack, had said that Tahawwur Rana had supplied goods and provided financial support for the terror operation. Headley had conducted a recce of Mumbai as an employee of Rana's immigration consultancy before the attacks. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Tahawwur Rana in Chicago in October 2009, a year after the Mumbai attacks.

Tahawwur Rana was born in Chichawatni city of Sahiwal district in Punjab province of Pakistan. He has served in the Medical Corps of the Pakistani Army. Tahawwur left the Pakistani Army in the late 1990s and moved to Canada and later got Canadian citizenship. 

Conspiracy of terrorist attack in many states of India

Security agency officials say that Tahawwur Rana and David Headley are childhood friends. Headley and Rana had hatched a criminal conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks in Delhi and other places in India along with members of Pakistan-based terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI).

A total of 166 people, including six Americans, were killed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. These attacks were carried out by 10 Pakistani terrorists. In November 2012, Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only surviving terrorist of the Pakistani group, was hanged in Pune's Yerwada jail.
