5:2 diet is effective in controlling diabetes, research reveals

How To Control Diabetes Without Medicine: Not just medicine but diet can also prove to be helpful in controlling diabetes. Here we are telling you about a diet plan which has been found beneficial for diabetes patients in research.

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease, which stays with the patient for life. Eating habits have a great impact on it. Therefore, it is possible to control it through diet as well. But according to a recent study, the 5:2 diet plan prepared by Dr. Michael Mosley for people suffering from type 2 diabetes has been said to be more beneficial than medicine. In such a situation, if you want to control diabetes without medicine, then definitely give this diet plan a try-

What is the 5:2 diet plan?

The 5:2 diet plan is similar to intermittent fasting. It involves eating without restriction for five days and then cutting down on 500-600 calories for two days in a row. The theory behind the diet is that after a day with restricted calories, the body starts using energy from food to burn fat.

Beneficial in diabetes

According to a report published in the JAMA Network Open Journal , following such an eating plan helps in glycemic control as well as reducing obesity.

The effect is better than the medicine

This study of 405 adults found that following the 5:2 diet plan resulted in better glycemic control (blood glucose levels) than metformin and empagliflozin, making it an excellent alternative to medication for patients with type 2 diabetes.

The effect was visible in three months

Researchers reported that diabetes patients following the 5:2 diet saw a significant drop in average HbA1C blood sugar in three months. Apart from this, a reduction in their waist and hip fat was also observed.
