WTC 2025-27 Schedule: India has kicked off the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) with a bang. Under Shubman Gill's captaincy, Team India recorded their first series win in the new cycle, clean-sweeping the West Indies 2-0. After losing two finals, the Indian team will be aiming to win the trophy this time at any cost.

India at number three, Sri Lanka and Australia ahead

Following the win against the West Indies, India has moved up to third place in the latest points table with a win percentage of 61.90. Australia (100 percent) and Sri Lanka (66.67 percent) currently trail them. Notably, India has already played two series in this cycle, while several other teams are just beginning their campaigns. Pakistan and South Africa are currently playing their first series, while New Zealand has yet to play a Test.

There will be a clash between South Africa and Australia at home

Team India will play two home series, against South Africa and Australia. The two-Test series against South Africa in November 2025 will be crucial for the Indian players, as it could give them an edge in the race for the WTC final. This will be followed by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, hosted by India in February-March 2027, which is considered the most high-voltage series of this cycle.

A tough test on foreign soil

Team India will also face a challenging series abroad. In August 2026, India will tour Sri Lanka after nine years. In October 2026, the team will play two matches against New Zealand. This is the same land where India hasn't won a Test match since 2009.

India has reached the WTC final twice (2021 and 2023) but failed to win the title. In the 2025 edition, the team even qualified for the final. Now, Shubman Gill's young team has the opportunity to make history in their third attempt.
