Shubman Gill on India Playing 11 Combinations

India recorded its first win after six consecutive defeats. Team India defeated England by six wickets at Edgbaston to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Prior to this, India had lost the T20I series 0-4 to England and 0-2 to Ireland. With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah , Team India appears strong and experienced. Captain Shubman Gill said after the win in the first match that they are experimenting with different combinations, keeping in mind the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Shubman Gill, who came to the press conference after the victory, said, "When you see the middle and lower order batsmen scoring runs and winning the match, it gives confidence as a captain and a top-order batsman."

Shubman Gill said, "We wanted to bowl first, even if the target was 320. We have confidence in our batting line-up." India won resoundingly, although Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had a rough day. Rohit was dismissed for 11, while Virat managed just 5. Kohli hit a well-taken boundary off Archer before being trapped LBW on the next ball.

Experiment in playing 11 combinations

Shubman Gill believes this series in England is crucial, offering a good opportunity to experiment with combinations ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. According to a report in the Times of India, the BCCI is planning a rotation policy to test all players.

Shubman Gill said, "We are trying different combinations to see which combination will give us depth in bowling and batting." He said that the conditions in England are a good opportunity to prepare for the ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Shubman Gill said, "According to me, the wicket and conditions were quite similar to those in South Africa. It was not easy for the batsmen to play shots with the new ball because the ball was moving. Later the wicket got better. If we can try different combinations on such a wicket, it will be very good for us."
