Aamir Khan, now regarded as one of the most celebrated actors in Indian cinema, had a humble and sometimes challenging beginning in the film industry. One such moment from the early days of his career involved a tense encounter with legendary actor Amrish Puri.
The Incident on the Set of Jabardast (1985)
In 1985, Aamir Khan was assisting his uncle, director Nasir Hussain, during the shooting of the film Jabardast. The film featured stars like Rajiv Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Sunny Deol, Jaya Prada, and Amrish Puri.
During the shoot, Aamir reportedly interrupted Amrish Puri multiple times while a scene was being filmed. At the time, Amrish Puri was unaware of Aamir's identity and his relation to the director. Irritated by the interruptions, he publicly scolded Aamir on set in front of the cast and crew.
Amrish Puri's Apology
The situation changed dramatically once Amrish Puri learned that Aamir Khan was Nasir Hussain's nephew and was assisting him out of dedication to learning filmmaking. Realizing that he had been too harsh with a newcomer and a family member of the director, Puri felt regretful.
He later approached Aamir Khan and offered a sincere apology for his behavior.
A Moment That Reflects Character
This incident serves as a reminder that early struggles and confrontations are often part of an actor’s journey. It also highlights the humility of Amrish Puri, who didn’t let his seniority stop him from admitting a mistake. For Aamir Khan, it was just one of the many stepping stones that shaped his disciplined and respectful approach to cinema.
