Toyota Building was built when there was nothing in Dubai; why will it be demolished now?
Dubai Toyota Building News: Whenever we talk about Dubai, images of towering skyscrapers often come to mind. This city is the largest and most populous in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Today, this city is being discussed because the famous Toyota Building here is being demolished.
An old photo from the time of Dubai's establishment often goes viral on the internet. The striking feature of this photo is that it shows the Toyota Building, the tallest of all the buildings built at that time, with the word TOYOTA written on it in red. In fact, this building was built when Dubai was completely empty, meaning there were no tall buildings or large corporations. Now, this iconic building is about to end.
According to a report in the Khaleej Times, the Toyota Building, which has 15 floors and was built in 1974, is also known as the Nasser Rashid Lootah Building. Located near Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, the building is being evacuated.
Why is the building being evacuated?
It should be noted that the Dubai Municipality is taking strict action against several apartments that have been illegally distributed, as they pose a significant safety risk. Municipal officials have expressed concern about overcrowding in such apartments. The municipality believes that these older buildings may now pose an increased risk of fire and make evacuating people difficult in case of an emergency.
The building's real estate department says that some apartments in this Toyota building were divided into multiple rooms, and up to 15 people lived in one unit. Now, all these people have lost their homes. The administration has asked them to relocate.
It's worth noting that when this building was constructed in 1974, it was one of Dubai's first residential high-rise buildings. Standing approximately 65 meters tall, the building became known as the Toyota Building in 1981, when a large red Toyota sign was installed at the top.
This building became a famous landmark
Interestingly, it was removed in 2018 after the Toyota ad contract ended, but considering the memories and attachment associated with this landmark, it was reinstalled in June 2022.
