WhatsApp is the world's most popular messaging app. Millions of people use it to chat, call, and share files. However, sometimes a stranger adds you to a WhatsApp group without your permission. Such groups may contain spam messages, fraudulent offers, or unwanted content, which can compromise your privacy.
If you also want to prevent strangers from adding you to WhatsApp groups, WhatsApp has a simple privacy setting for this. Let's learn how to use it.
How to stop strangers from adding you to WhatsApp groups?
Follow the easy steps given below:
Open WhatsApp on your smartphone.
Tap the three dots (⋮) at the top right.
Go to Settings.
Now select the Privacy option.
Here, tap Groups.
You will now see three options:
Everyone – Anyone can add you to groups.
My Contacts – Only your saved contacts can add you to groups.
My Contacts Except… – You can choose which people will not be allowed to add you to groups.
If you don't want almost anyone to be able to add you to groups directly, choose My Contacts Except... and select all contacts. Then, if anyone wants to add you to a group, they'll first have to send you a Group Invite, which you'll have to accept or decline.
The benefits of this setting include
protection from groups of unknown people.
You'll receive fewer spam and fake messages.
Your privacy will be improved.
You'll only be allowed to join a group with your permission.
You'll receive fewer unwanted notifications on your phone.
