IMF said – the situation will get worse

US-Iran War: The ongoing war between the US and Iran shows no signs of abating. It has disrupted the global economy. Everyone is now waiting for this war to end. Meanwhile, reports suggest that this war will not end easily or quickly. The IMF chief has provided information on this matter. He also spoke about conflicts around the world amid the ongoing war, saying that the situation could worsen.

What did the IMF chief say?
Recently, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva was in Los Angeles to attend a conference at the Milken Institute. In her address, she spoke about the war situation and said, "If the Middle East war continues for a long time, the situation will worsen. The economic growth projections made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) three weeks ago are no longer relevant, as the prolonged war in the Persian Gulf means lower growth rates and higher inflation."

If the war drags on, the situation will worsen.
Not only this, but the IMF chief warned on Monday that inflation is already rising, and if the ongoing tensions in the Middle East drag on until 2027, significant losses will be faced. He also said that if oil prices reach around $125 per barrel, the global economy could face "very dire consequences." He also stated that the slight increase in inflation forecasts made earlier is no longer possible. Inflation could rise significantly in the future.

It should be noted that the war between Iran and the United States has been ongoing since February 2026. Israel and the United States jointly attacked Iran, carrying out approximately 900 airstrikes on military infrastructure and nuclear facilities. Israel and the United States dubbed these attacks "Operation Epic Fury." Several prominent leaders and civilians, including Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, lost their lives. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks. A pause in the conflict led to negotiations, but this proved futile.
