The government has taken a big step towards curbing airport charges, and these rules will now change.

Airport Rules: If you travel by air, this news is important for you. The central government is preparing to make major changes to various airport charges and other complex regulations. These changes aim to simplify airport management, streamline business, and provide better service to travellers.

There will be a big change in airport charges

According to the report, a committee headed by NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba has recommended revising the current airport payment rules. Currently, airports have separate fees, including landing fees, parking charges, user development fees, and aerobridge charges. The committee recommends reducing these fees to just three categories: landing and parking charges, UDF, and other airport services.

The committee believes the current system is too complex, preventing airports from setting fees according to their needs. With the new system in place, airports will be able to more easily make decisions, such as changing fees and offering discounts, to suit different routes, seasons, or attract new airlines. However, AERA will continue to monitor these matters.

The need for approval will be eliminated.

Not just the charges, the committee has also recommended implementing a system of self-certification, eliminating the need to seek approval from BCAS every time for minor changes to shops, restaurants, lounges and other business spaces within the airport terminal.

Apart from this, it has been recommended to make the Height NOC process completely digital and automatic for the buildings being constructed around the airport. If there is no change in the condition of the airport, then an offer has also been given to extend the validity of the Height NOC by 12 years.

Ease in drone and pilot rules

To increase competition in ground handling services, the committee recommended increasing the temporary license period for foreign pilots from one year to two, and simplifying the clearance requirements for small drones up to 30 kilometers.
If the government approves these recommendations, airport regulations will become simpler, boost business, and travelers can benefit from better and more efficient service.
