Young girl DVT death pill: An 18-year-old girl consumed some hormonal medicines to stop her periods, after which she suffered from deep vein thrombosis, which led to her death. The girl was taken to the doctor, who, seeing the seriousness of the girl's health, asked to admit her immediately to the hospital. But the girl's family did not consider it necessary to admit her. After this, the girl died the next morning.
An 18-year-old student had come to the clinic with knee and thigh pain just after taking a hormonal pill that would stop her period for three days just to attend a puja. Doctors discovered that the cause of the pain was deep vein thrombosis (DVT) from which the girl was suffering. Investigations revealed a blood clot that had spread from the thigh to the navel. Dr Vivekanand advised immediate treatment, but the family delayed treatment and by night, the student was unable to breathe. Due to which she died.
How hormonal pills cause blood clotting
Deep pain thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clot forms deep in the veins, usually in the legs. It becomes dangerous when the blood clot blocks blood flow or spreads to other parts of the body. It can be life-threatening. This happened due to the medicines taken to stop menstruation, in which the menstrual flow stopped and the clot started spreading in the body.
When does deep vein thrombosis (DVT) become fatal
DVT becomes fatal when the affected patient gets pulmonary embolism. In this, DVT reaches the lungs, due to which severe chest pain starts . Usually the nerves of the patients suffering from DVT get damaged and swelling, pain and wounds start forming in the body for a long time.
In which situations DVT is more dangerous
1 Women taking hormonal contraceptives for the first time are at higher risk in the first year.
2 In conditions like obesity, smoking, long journeys and excessive bed rest.
3 The risk is higher during pregnancy and postpartum.
4 Family history may also increase the risk of thrombosis.
Symptoms of DVT
- swelling, pain, or warmness in the thigh or calf
- clot formation in the lungs
- Sudden chest pain
- shortness of breath or fainting
Are hormonal pills safe to stop periods?
Hormonal medicines are used to stop or control periods, but doing so without the advice of doctors can be fatal. Consuming these pills can cause serious problems like DVT.
