Fans waiting for the next chapter of the popular Stree horror-comedy franchise will reportedly have to wait longer than originally expected. Stree 3, featuring the franchise associated with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is now planned for a 2028 theatrical release instead of its earlier proposed 2027 arrival.

The development comes after the massive popularity of Stree 2, which hit theatres in 2024 and strengthened audience interest in Maddock Films' expanding horror-comedy universe. Following the sequel's success, expectations surrounding the third instalment have remained high.

Earlier plans had reportedly placed Stree 3 on the release calendar for August 13, 2027. However, producer Dinesh Vijan has now indicated that the film will arrive in 2028, meaning audiences could face an additional wait of roughly a year.

Why Has Stree 3 Been Pushed to 2028?

The delay is linked to director Amar Kaushik's schedule and his upcoming project Mahavatar.

Before returning to the Stree franchise, Kaushik is expected to focus on Mahavatar, which is set to feature Vicky Kaushal in the role of Lord Parashurama. Both Mahavatar and Stree 3 are being developed under Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films.

According to the details currently available, work on Mahavatar will take priority, with Kaushik expected to begin Stree 3 only after completing his commitments to the Vicky Kaushal-starrer.

During an event, producer Dinesh Vijan reportedly confirmed that Stree 3 is being targeted for release in 2028.

While an exact theatrical release date has not yet been officially announced, two major windows are reportedly under consideration—around Independence Day or Christmas in 2028.

This means fans should treat any specific 2028 date circulating online as tentative until Maddock Films formally announces the movie's release schedule.

Vijan also shared an encouraging update regarding the film's development. According to him, work on the story and screenplay has already been completed.

The makers are expected to retain the elements that helped make the Stree franchise popular, including its combination of supernatural horror, comedy and an interconnected storyline. At the same time, the producer has suggested that audiences could be surprised by how the upcoming movie begins and concludes.

When Could Stree 3 Shooting Begin?

Before cameras start rolling for Stree 3, Amar Kaushik is expected to complete Mahavatar.

As per the current production plan, shooting for Mahavatar is expected to begin around the end of January 2027. The makers are reportedly aiming to complete major work on the film by June 2027.

Once Kaushik completes his responsibilities on Mahavatar, attention could shift towards the next Stree instalment.
