Serious Injury Replacement: Impact of Rishabh Pant's injury, BCCI brings a new rule.

Team India has faced a lot of problems due to the injury of Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant on the England tour. Due to which the Board of Control for Cricket in India has introduced a new rule in domestic cricket.

Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant had to face a serious injury on the recent England tour. During the Lord's Test, he suffered a finger injury while wicketkeeping. At the same time, Pant suffered a serious leg injury in the Manchester Test, due to which he had to leave the field. Pant's injury had raised concerns for Team India in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. Due to which the Board of Control for Cricket in India has now made a new rule before the upcoming domestic season.

BCCI brought a new rule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has introduced a new 'serious injury replacement' for multi-day matches in domestic cricket. This rule will be effective from the 2025-26 season and replacement will be given for injured players in multi-day formats. Rishabh Pant's injury has prompted the BCCI to take steps in this direction. Under the new rule, if a player is ruled out of the match due to a serious injury during a multi-day match, the team management will be able to replace him with a player of similar qualification. This replacement will be effective immediately, for this the approval of the selection committee and the match referee will have to be taken.

The serious injury replacement rule will ensure that the team's strategy is not affected due to injury and the level of play is maintained. In the ongoing umpires' seminar in Ahmedabad, the umpires have been informed about the latest playing conditions. The BCCI said that no such replacement will be allowed in the white ball tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali or Vijay Hazare tournament. It is not yet decided whether this rule will be allowed in the next season of IPL or not, but this rule will be applicable in the multi-day Under 19 tournament for the CK Nayudu Trophy.

What is the rule of ICC?

According to ICC rules, replacement is given only when a player has a concussion. Now the rule in concussion is that if a player is out due to this reason, he will not be able to play any match for 7 days. According to the rules of cricket, concussion substitute is applicable when a player gets a head injury and is unable to continue playing.
