From religious and spiritual point of view, consumption of many things is considered forbidden in the month of Shravan. Brinjal, milk, curd should especially not be consumed these days. Leafy vegetables should also be avoided. The reason behind not eating brinjal and leafy vegetables is that humidity during the rainy season can cause infection. Bacteria and germs grow quickly in humidity, so consuming them can be harmful. Leafy vegetables also contain worms, which are harmful to health. Brinjal is not digested easily, so it should be eaten less during the rainy season.

If you are going to observe Sawan Monday fast, do not consume normal salt. Instead, use rock salt, because it is considered holy and is also used in fasting. Whatever food items you prepare for the fast, prepare them with rock salt only.
