Plastic Currency: While digital payments have become increasingly common these days, a large number of people still carry cash. You likely have 10, 20, 100, or 500 rupee notes, but their appearance will likely change soon. Preparations have begun to introduce plastic notes into India. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken a significant step in this direction.

Process to purchase polymer sheets begins.

It should be noted that the RBI's note printing company, BRBNMPL, has begun the process of purchasing polymer sheets used to make plastic notes. To this end, the company has sought offers (EOIs) from companies worldwide. This will be used to work towards producing plastic notes.

Speaking of BRBNMPL, or Bhartiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited, it is the RBI-owned company responsible for printing currency notes in the country. This company is responsible for many important tasks related to banknotes. Now that the EOI for polymer sheets has been issued, it's clear that preparations for plastic banknotes are progressing rapidly, which will likely result in a completely different appearance for future notes.
