Importance of bathing in the confluence

Bathing, donating, worshipping, and fasting on the day of Paush Purnima hold special significance. People especially consider bathing at the confluence of the Ganga-Yamuna-Saraswati or in any other holy river on this sacred day to be virtuous. It is believed that bathing at the confluence on Paush Purnima absolves the sins of the entire year and opens the door to the blessings of the month of Magh. However, those who are unable to bathe at the confluence for some reason can still attain virtue. For such individuals, the scriptures offer some remedies.

Get the virtue of bathing in the Sangam at home.

It is mentioned in the scriptures that to attain virtue, God first looks at the devotee's feelings and devotion. Therefore, your feelings are more important than the method and place. If you are unable to bathe at the Sangam on Paush Purnima, you can attain virtue by bathing at home.

First, wake up during the Brahma Muhurta on the day of Paush Purnima. Prepare clean water for bathing and add a little Ganga water to it. While bathing, mentally meditate on the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati, while chanting this mantra. Bathing at home with this mantra is considered as fruitful as bathing at a holy place.

“ Ganga Cha Yamune Chaiva Godavari Saraswati. Narmade Sindhu Kaveri Jalesmin Sannidhi Kuru.”

When bathing, use only clean water. Do not use soap or shampoo.

After bathing, offer water to the Sun God, perform puja and donate to the poor. Fasting on the full moon day is important. If for some reason, you cannot fast, eat only sattvik food.
