Ghatak Drone: Today's warfare is gradually shifting from the ground to the sky, where fighter jets and drones are playing a crucial role. At a time when China is rapidly developing its advanced fighter jets and new drone technology, India is also working to elevate its capabilities to the next level. In this direction, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing a unique unmanned fighter aircraft, named Ghatak. True to its name, this drone could prove extremely dangerous for the enemy.

Stealth Design

The Ghatak's most distinctive feature is its advanced stealth design. It is designed to remain invisible like conventional aircraft. Its flying-wing structure and hidden engine intakes make it extremely difficult to detect on radar. This allows it to easily penetrate even strong enemy air defenses and carry out its mission without being detected.

The ability to attack up to 1000 kilometers away

The drone's strength lies not only in its stealthiness but also in its long-range strike capability. Its flight and aerodynamic capabilities were successfully tested in 2022 using its SWiFT (Stealth Wing Flying Testbed) prototype. Ghatak is being designed to operate in conjunction with fighter jets. It will be able to perform missions in coordination with the Sukhoi Su-30MKI, HAL Tejas Mk2, and upcoming Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft.

It may be similar in size to a light combat aircraft, but its flight time and endurance will be much greater. With a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 13 tons and a fuel capacity of approximately 3.7 tons, it can fly continuously for approximately 8 hours. Furthermore, it can accurately engage targets at ranges of over 1000 kilometers.

Indigenous engine will provide new power

This drone is planned to be powered by a specially modified version of the Kaveri engine being developed in India, which is currently undergoing advanced testing. The use of indigenous technology will not only enhance its capabilities but also strengthen India's defense self-reliance.
