Why are onion prices rising?

Due to the delayed start of sowing in India, the arrival of the new Kharif onion crop is being delayed. Furthermore, the festive season has led to a sharp increase in onion demand, widening the supply-demand gap. According to reports, to provide relief to the public from this price burden, the government is planning to release onions from its buffer stock into the markets starting in September.
