Vada Pav prices have risen in Mumbai.

Mumbai: Following the recent increase in milk prices, Mumbai residents have now been hit with another inflationary blow as bread prices have also been raised across the city. Most recently (May 14), Amul and Mother Dairy increased milk prices by ₹2 per liter.

Now, the prices of bread and pav have been increased by up to Rs 5. This move is expected to directly impact the daily expenses of ordinary citizens, especially working people whose daily livelihoods depend on inexpensive snacks like vada pav, misal pav, bhaji pav, and sandwiches.

Why did bakeries increase the price?

Local bakeries in Mumbai have raised the prices of bread as well as single loafs. They say they have been forced to do so due to rising production costs. Plastic packaging, transportation, imported raw materials, and a weakening rupee are all making these costs higher than before.

This is a cause for concern because vada pav has become a part of Mumbai's culture. Millions of people eat vada pav items daily. Customers have expressed concern that this latest price increase will further burden the average Mumbaikar, who is already struggling with rising inflation.

Inflation is rising all around.

On May 1st, the price of commercial cylinders was increased by ₹993. Furthermore, petrol and diesel prices have been increased twice in the past week. This has led to higher costs for delivering raw materials to bakeries and for supplying bread and loaves to shops. Therefore, prices were increased to offset the losses.

How much will the price of a plate increase?

A large loaf of bread typically costs between 15 and 25 rupees in various shops and areas of Mumbai. Now, prices will increase by an average of 2-5 rupees. This means it's likely to sell for between 18 and 30 rupees.
