Refund requests can be made from the comfort of your home through the MRM portal to recover money lost due to cyber fraud. Certain conditions must be met for this. Learn the easy way to get your money back through the MRM portal.

Claim Guide on MRM Portal

Cyber fraud cases are on the rise these days. From OTP fraud to digital arrests, people are swindled out of their money. In such cases, if a timely complaint is filed and the fraudulent funds are frozen in the accused's bank account, the process of getting their money back can become easier.

The Union Home Ministry has launched a new sub-portal called the Mobile Restoration Module (MRM) for victims of cybercrime. Through this, individuals can submit refund requests from the comfort of their homes. However, refunds through MRM will only be processed if the defrauded funds have already been frozen in the accused's bank account. So, let's learn how to claim money lost in cyber fraud using the MRM portal.

What is Mobile Restoration Module?

The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has launched the MRM site. Its purpose is to save victims of cyber fraud from the hassle of visiting various government offices and banks to obtain refunds. Individuals can file refund requests on this portal from the comfort of their homes. MRM is part of the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP). It can only be used by individuals who have filed a complaint through the 1930 helpline or the NCRP portal immediately after being defrauded and whose defrauded funds have been frozen.

What is the refund category on MRM?

There are three categories for refunds on MRM. If the frozen amount is less than ₹50,000, there's no need to upload a copy of an FIR or court order, and the amount can be refunded directly based on a police complaint. In another situation, if the frozen amount is more than ₹50,000 in multiple bank accounts, and the amount in any one account doesn't exceed ₹50,000, an FIR or court order is not required. However, if the frozen amount exceeds ₹50,000 in a single bank account, it's necessary to file an FIR and obtain a court order before requesting a refund.

How to Claim on MRM Portal

1. Keep ready your bank account number, digital copy of PAN card, 14-digit complaint number, and registered mobile number ready for the refund request.

2. Go to the MRM portal, select Citizen Login and log in through OTP from the mobile number registered in NCRP.
