Sleep Deprivation Health Risks: Sleep is as essential for survival as oxygen. A case of 50-year sleep deprivation in Madhya Pradesh has been reported. Let us explain.
Can a human survive without sleep for 50 years? Some things not only astonish humans, but also astonish science. If you're in India, you're likely to encounter such claims and truths every few days. A similar claim has been made in Madhya Pradesh, astonishing both humans and medical science. Mohan Lal Dwivedi, a 75-year-old retired joint collector from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, revealed that he hasn't slept for 50 years. The most surprising thing is that while medical experts and research constantly emphasize the importance of sleep, and that a lack of proper sleep can lead to various diseases and problems, Mohan Lal is living a normal, active, and healthy life without sleep. Let us explain how this is possible.
What is Mohan Lal's claim?
Speaking to ABP News, Mohanlal Dwivedi, a resident of Chanakyapuri Colony in Rewa district of MP, said that this problem started around 1973. He has been unable to sleep ever since. On the other hand, medical science states in bold and bold words that "Sleep is the Best Medicine". A healthy and fit person needs 6 to 8 hours of sleep daily. If he does not sleep for a long time, its effects start showing in his body. According to his claim, he neither feels sleepy nor does he feel pain like normal people when injured. Despite staying awake the whole night, he does not feel any irritation in the eyes, fatigue or any decrease in working capacity.
He began his career as a lecturer in 1973. He passed the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission exam in 1974, becoming a Deputy Tehsildar, and retired as a Joint Collector in 2001. Mohan Lal says he spends most of his time reading and is often seen walking on the terrace at night. Surprisingly, his wife also sleeps for only three to four hours.
What do experts say?
Dr. Aresh Singh, a senior physician at Azamgarh District Hospital, clearly states, "According to medical science, it's not considered possible for a person to have gone 50 years without sleep at all." He explains that the human brain begins to be seriously affected within just a few days without sleep. Furthermore, prolonged sleep deprivation impacts memory, thinking ability, hormones, heart function, and immunity.
