July 1 Rule Changes: LPG Prices, Aadhaar Update, Passport Fees, EPFO, Credit Cards and ITR Deadlines Explained

Several financial and regulatory changes have come into effect across India from July 1, 2026, impacting households, taxpayers, bank customers, EPF subscribers, passport applicants, and credit card users.

The latest updates cover commercial LPG prices, Aadhaar services, passport application charges, income tax filing deadlines, EPFO digital services, and revised banking and credit card rules. Here's a detailed look at the key changes you should know.

1. Commercial LPG Cylinder Becomes Cheaper

Oil marketing companies have reduced the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by ₹183.50 from July 1.

Following the revision, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has fallen from ₹3,113.50 to ₹2,930.

The reduction is expected to benefit hotels, restaurants, catering businesses, and other commercial establishments.

However, 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged, providing no immediate relief for household consumers.

2. ITR Filing Deadlines for FY 2025–26

Taxpayers should pay close attention to the revised income tax filing schedule for the Assessment Year 2026–27.

The applicable deadlines are:

  • ITR-1 and ITR-2 (individual taxpayers): July 31, 2026
  • ITR-3 and ITR-4 (non-audit cases): August 31, 2026

Missing the applicable due date may result in penalties, interest, delayed refunds, and restrictions on carrying forward eligible losses, depending on the provisions of the Income-tax Act.

3. EPFO Digital Upgrade Continues

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is currently upgrading its digital infrastructure under its ongoing modernization initiative.

During the maintenance period, several online services—including PF claim submission, passbook downloads, balance checks, and claim tracking—remain temporarily unavailable.

EPFO has stated that the upgrade aims to improve claim processing speed, security, and overall user experience. The organisation also continues preparations for future digital initiatives, including UPI-based PF withdrawal features under its broader modernization programme.

4. Passport Application Fees Revised

The Government has revised passport application charges under the amended Passport Rules.

Key changes include:

  • Fee for a 36-page ordinary passport increased from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500.
  • Tatkal application fee for the same category increased from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000.
  • Charges for 60-page passports and replacement of damaged or lost passports have also been revised.

Senior citizens and children below eight years of age continue to receive the applicable fee concession on eligible passport applications.

5. Aadhaar Email Update Becomes Free

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived the fee for updating or linking an email address with Aadhaar through its official mobile application.

The facility is available free of charge from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

Normally, updating the registered email address attracts a service fee, but eligible users can complete the process without any charge during the promotional period.

6. RBI Tightens Rules on Mis-selling

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced new customer protection measures aimed at reducing the mis-selling of financial products.

Under the updated framework:

  • Customers may be eligible for refunds or compensation if financial products are sold without proper consent or through misleading practices.
  • Banks have been instructed to restrict promotional and telemarketing calls to 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The new guidelines are intended to improve transparency and strengthen consumer protection.

7. HDFC Bank Revises Credit Card Benefits

HDFC Bank has implemented changes to the reward programme and travel benefits for selected credit cards, including:

  • Regalia Gold Credit Card
  • Diners Club Privilege Credit Card

Among the major changes, Regalia Gold cardholders must now spend at least ₹60,000 in the previous calendar quarter to qualify for complimentary domestic airport lounge access.

Other modifications related to reward point calculations have also been introduced.

8. SBI Card Introduces Monthly Reward Limits

SBI Card has updated the reward structure for:

  • PhonePe SBI Card Purple
  • PhonePe SBI Card Select Black

Effective July 1, monthly limits have been placed on reward points earned through eligible spending.

The revised structure also includes separate reward caps for insurance-related transactions and other spending categories, along with lower limits for reward points on certain online purchases.

What These Changes Mean for Consumers

The July 1 updates affect a wide range of financial services and government schemes. Taxpayers should ensure they file their income tax returns within the applicable deadlines, while passport applicants and credit card users should review the revised fee structures and benefit conditions before applying or making transactions.

Similarly, Aadhaar holders can take advantage of the temporary waiver on email update charges, and EPFO members should plan their PF-related activities after online services are fully restored following the ongoing system upgrade.
