Manjot Kalra Arrested in Lanka Premier League: An Indian cricketer has been arrested on charges of giving a bribe in Sri Lanka's Lanka Premier League.

Former Indian cricketer arrested for allegedly bribing a player
An Indian cricketer has been arrested by Sri Lanka's Sports Anti-Corruption Unit. The case relates to the Lanka Premier League (LPL), in which former Indian Under-19 cricketer Manjot Kalra is co-owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise. He was accused of bribing a player. Kalra's arrest comes just before the start of the next season of the Lanka Premier League. The 2026 season begins today, July 17th.
A Special Investigation Unit was formed to crack down on sports-related crimes. This unit produced Manjot before a magistrate.
Sri Lankan police say 27-year-old Manjoth attempted to bribe the player about 10 days before the start of the Lanka Premier League season. The alleged player reported the matter to higher authorities, prompting an investigation and the Indian cricketer's arrest on Friday.
Police said a complaint was filed by cricketers Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Avishka Fernando, and Dunith Welalage, who are part of the Jaffna Kings squad in the Lanka Premier League. This isn't the first time the Lanka Premier League has tainted cricket. Earlier this year, the owner of another franchise was banned for four years for attempting to involve a player in match-fixing.
Speaking of Manjot Kalra, he has already scored a century for Team India in the Under-19 World Cup final. He scored an unbeaten 101 against Australia in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup final. This was the same World Cup in which Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw also represented Team India.
