Reliance Jio Satellite LEO Network: Reliance Jio has received a crucial approval for satellite internet . Jio intends to deploy 1,600 satellites in low-Earth orbit. The country's space regulator, IN-SPACe, has approved the company's proposal. A technical review conducted jointly with ISRO and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) deemed Jio 's plan technically sound. With this approval, Jio will now be able to file internationally for orbital slots. This will pave the way for Jio to build India's first satellite broadband constellation.
This is the complete planning of Jio.
Jio plans to deploy 1,600 satellites in low-Earth orbit. The orbital zone between 160 and 2,000 kilometers above Earth is called low-Earth orbit. Using these 1,600 satellites, Jio will create a communications network in space, providing high-speed internet and mobile connectivity across the country. Elon Musk's company, Starlink, already provides satellite internet, but it has not yet received approval to launch its service in India.
Jio will also build 20-22 ground stations.
According to Jio's proposal, the satellite network will be designed to offer a capacity of 4.5-5 Tbps. This is significantly higher than many other satellite projects. To support its satellite operations and network services, Jio will also build 20-22 ground stations across the country. This network will be used to serve consumer and enterprise segments. In addition, Jio plans to offer fixed satellite services such as broadband and cellular backhaul, as well as mobile satellite services such as direct-to-device services.
Jio's proposal is solid compared to its competitors.
In granting approval, IN-SPACe stated that Jio's proposal is technically at par with the world's leading satellite system companies. In terms of capacity, Starlink has received approval for speeds of up to 600Gbps in India. Amazon's Project Kuiper will offer speeds of up to 3Tbps, which is also pending approval in India. In comparison, Jio has proposed speeds of approximately 5Tbps.
What is the next step after getting approval?
Jio has received approval from the Indian government, but before deploying the satellite, several more international approvals will need to be obtained. These include international orbital rights. Jio has requested the Indian government's assistance in obtaining these rights from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
