If India builds a dam on the Indus river, we will attack', Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif again issued a threat

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has given a stern warning to India for violating the Indus Water Treaty. He said that if India builds a dam on the Indus River, Pakistan will attack.

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif: Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has once again given a hollow threat to India in a recent TV interview. Khawaja Asif said that if India builds a dam on the Indus River, Pakistan will attack it. He said that aggression is not only done through bullets, stopping water is also an attack.

Khawaja Asif's statement has come at a time when India has put Pakistan in the dock after the Pahalgam attack and diplomatic relations between the two countries have deteriorated. The IWT (Indus Waters Treaty) signed between India and Pakistan in 1960 with the mediation of the World Bank is considered the world's most successful water agreement till date. Under this treaty, India was given control of the eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas, Sutlej), while Pakistan got more rights over the western rivers (Indus, Jhelum, Chenab).

India's tough stand after Pahalgam attack

India has limited permission to undertake power projects and other construction work on the western rivers under prescribed conditions. Pakistan's response to the possibility of India suspending or unilaterally cancelling the treaty has been severe and aggressive. India took strong action against Pakistan after the death of 26 people in Pahalgam , Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April . Apart from cancelling the IWT, India cancelled visas of Pakistani citizens and closed the Wagah-Attari border.

Asif's absurd statement against India

Pakistan's Defence Minister believes that India is not getting the support it expected at international forums. He alleged that India's allegations were rejected by the international community. The Modi government has no evidence to prove its claims.

India is using water as a weapon: Asif

Khawaja Asif had earlier said that India is using water as a weapon, but we do not want to start a war with India. He said that if a situation of war arises, Pakistan will also respond to it. The Pakistani Defense Minister had also said that Pakistan will contact the World Bank regarding the Indus Water Treaty.
