When Maharishi Ved Vyas was looking for a talented writer to write the Mahabharata, Ganeshji agreed to it but he also put a condition that as long as Maharishi would speak without stopping, he would also keep writing continuously. Ved Vyas started narrating the story of Mahabharata from the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Gauri Putra Ganeshji kept writing the story continuously for 10 days.

When Maharishi Ved Vyas opened his eyes after the story was over, he saw that Ganeshji's body temperature had increased due to his continuous hard work. To reduce Bappa's body temperature, Maharishi Ved Vyas made him take a bath in a lake. It was the day of Anant Chaturdashi. Therefore, according to religious belief, Ganesh idols are immersed after the day of Ganesh Utsav.
