Who can open a minor demat account?
Parents or legal guardians can open a demat account in the name of a minor.
Until the child turns 18, the account will be operated only by the guardian.
This is not a joint account - only the name of the minor is listed, while the guardian manages the account.
Is there any age limit?
No, there is no minimum age limit. A demat account can be opened at any age.
Documents required to open a minor's demat account
To open a demat account for a minor, you will need the following documents
For minor:
Birth certificate (with parent/guardian's name)
Photograph of the minor
PAN card of the minor (if available)
Bank account details in the name of the minor (can be joint with guardian)
For parent/guardian:
PAN card
Aadhaar card (for identity and address proof)
Photograph
KYC compliance documents (SEBI KYC, FATCA, PMLA norms)
Signature and verification
Parent's signature is mandatory.
Verification and document submission can be done both online and offline.
Photographs of both the minor and the guardian must be uploaded during the account opening process.
