Residents planning to purchase an electric vehicle in Delhi may soon find the subsidy application process much easier. The Delhi government is preparing to introduce a dedicated online EV portal that will allow eligible buyers to submit applications for incentives under the Delhi EV Policy 2026 without visiting government offices.
According to the latest update, the Transport Department is expected to launch the portal within the next few days. Once operational, it will provide a single digital platform where eligible applicants can claim purchase-related benefits and scrappage incentives by completing the process online.
Subsidy Amount to Be Sent Directly Through DBT
The upcoming portal aims to simplify the distribution of financial incentives offered under the Delhi EV Policy 2026. After verification of submitted documents, approved applicants will receive the eligible subsidy directly in their registered bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The government expects the DBT-based payment mechanism to improve transparency while reducing paperwork and minimizing delays in processing claims. Eligible buyers will not need to visit multiple offices, as the complete application process will be handled digitally.
Application Must Be Submitted Within 30 Days
Vehicle owners seeking to claim incentives must complete the application within a specified timeline. Applicants purchasing a new electric vehicle will be required to submit their claim within 30 days from the date their vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) is issued.
Missing this deadline could affect eligibility for receiving the subsidy under the policy.
Documents Required for Purchase Incentive
To claim the purchase incentive, applicants will need to upload supporting documents on the portal. These include:
- Purchase certificate issued by the authorized vehicle dealer.
- Registration Certificate (RC) of the electric vehicle.
- Identity, banking, and other documents as specified by the Transport Department.
The uploaded documents will be verified before the incentive amount is approved for transfer.
Additional Requirements for Scrappage Incentive
Vehicle owners planning to avail of the scrappage incentive will have to provide additional proof. Besides submitting documents related to the purchase of a new electric vehicle, applicants must also upload a certificate confirming that their old vehicle has been scrapped at a government-authorized vehicle scrapping facility.
Only applications meeting all eligibility conditions under the policy are expected to qualify for the incentive.
Which Vehicle Categories Are Covered?
The online application system is primarily designed for buyers of electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers, and N1 category electric commercial vehicles. These vehicle categories are eligible for purchase incentives and scrappage-related benefits under the Delhi EV Policy 2026, subject to the prescribed conditions.
The initiative is expected to encourage wider adoption of electric mobility while supporting the replacement of older, more polluting vehicles.
Electric Car Buyers May Not Need to Apply
The government has clarified that not every EV owner will be required to submit an application through the new portal.
Individuals purchasing eligible electric cars and certain other vehicle categories that receive exemptions from road tax and registration charges are expected to receive those benefits automatically during the vehicle registration process. Since these concessions are applied at the time of registration, separate online applications for those specific benefits will not be necessary.
More Digital Services Planned for the Portal
The Delhi government also plans to expand the portal's functionality beyond subsidy applications. Future updates are expected to include several additional services designed to improve the overall EV ownership experience.
Proposed features include:
- Real-time information on public EV charging stations.
- List of government-authorized vehicle scrapping centres.
- Directory of approved EV dealerships.
- Additional EV-related services and policy information.
These enhancements are intended to create a comprehensive digital platform for electric vehicle users across the national capital.
Move Aims to Strengthen Delhi's EV Ecosystem
The launch of the dedicated EV portal represents another step toward digitizing public services and promoting cleaner transportation in Delhi. By allowing buyers to apply for incentives online and receive approved payments directly into their bank accounts, the government aims to make the subsidy process faster, more transparent, and more accessible.
As Delhi continues to encourage electric vehicle adoption, the new portal is expected to simplify incentive claims while providing a centralized platform for important EV-related information and services.
