Four youths gang-raped a 12th standard student in Bihar's Saran district. The police arrested one of the accused on Friday, within 24 hours of the incident. Saran Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish said that the victim reached the police station on Thursday and lodged a complaint at Bhagwan Bazar police station accusing four people of molesting her.

The victim told the police that she came in contact with one of the accused through social media. On January 16, when she was returning from school by bus from Baniyapur, her social media friend called her. At the behest of her boyfriend, she got off the bus and met him. Later, they reached near a college, where three of his friends were waiting. Taking advantage of the situation, all four accused raped her in turns.

Her cries went unheard as the place was deserted. Later, the victim reached Bhagwan Bazar police station and lodged a formal complaint against the accused. SP Kumar Ashish said that the girl has been sent to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for medical examination.

The forensic team also visited the spot and collected evidence to corroborate the victim's statement. The SP said a special team has been formed to raid the suspected hideouts of the three other accused who fled after the incident. "They will be punished as soon as possible," he told the media. After the incident, the rape victim was scared as the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident to the police. "I somehow gathered courage and told the entire matter to the investigating officer," she said.
