Blinkit's license suspended, FDA takes major action
FDA Action on Blinkit: In Maharashtra, IAS officer Tukaram Munde is taking action against unsafe food items. The Maharashtra State Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided the country's renowned Blinkit company and took action against it for violating regulations. The FDA has suspended the food license of Blink Commerce Pvt. Ltd. This action was taken after finding unsanitary conditions, a cockroach infestation, and serious violations of food safety regulations.
The FDA Greater Mumbai department is regularly inspecting food establishments and taking strict action to ensure the safety and quality of food. In this sequence, the establishment of Blink Commerce Private Limited, Gala No. A-03, Plot No. 38, 39 & 40, 1st Floor, Sarvodaya Bhuvan, Ramchandra Lane, Malad (West), Mumbai was inspected by food safety officers on 7 August 2026.
Cockroaches, dirt and expired goods found
During the inspection, serious deficiencies were found in the establishment like extremely unhygienic conditions, large infestation of cockroaches, improper storage of food items, rusty racks and food items kept on the floor, inadequate cleaning of cold storage, stock of expired and tampered packaged food items, and non-adherence to the FIFO/FEFO system.
In addition, food storage and handling facilities lacked effective insect and rodent control measures, deficiencies in waste management, inadequate sanitation and maintenance, a lack of medical checkups and health records for food handlers, and a lack of necessary personal hygiene and safety equipment. Some food was stored improperly and unorganized.
Cockroaches found in fruit stock
A large cockroach infestation was found in the vegetable and fruit stock at the establishment, posing a serious risk of food contamination. Expired, damaged, and tampered packages were also found in the cold room.
In view of these serious irregularities, the food license of Blink Commerce Private Limited has been suspended with immediate effect till further orders under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
If the business is carried on, action will be taken
The establishment is prohibited from selling, distributing, or operating any type of food during the license suspension period. If any food business is found operating at the establishment during the suspension period, strict legal action will be taken against the individuals involved.
