The CBI has filed a second case against Reliance Communications based on a complaint filed by Bank of Baroda on February 24. Bank of Baroda has suffered losses of over ₹2,220 crore.

CBI has registered a case against Anil Ambani's Reliance company.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a second case against Reliance Communications based on a complaint from Bank of Baroda dated February 24, 2026. Reliance Communications promoter and former RCAM Chairman Anil Ambani and others have been charged with conspiracy, cheating under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and criminal misconduct and abuse of position under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The FIR alleges that Bank of Baroda suffered losses of over ₹2,220 crore due to loans taken by Reliance Communications. It alleges that these loans were misused through fraudulent transactions with related parties. Reliance Communications Limited's accounts were manipulated and irregularities concealed.
This account was declared NPA.
This account was declared a non-performing asset (NPA) in 2017. However, based on a petition filed by Anil Ambani in the Bombay High Court, the declaration of the accounts as fraudulent was stayed. This stay was lifted on March 23, 2026, after which Bank of Baroda filed this complaint, and the CBI immediately began investigating the matter.
It may be recalled that the CBI has already registered another case against M/s Reliance Communications on the basis of a complaint filed by SBI, the lead bank of a consortium of 11 banks.
However, Bank of Baroda was not part of the said group, and this was a separate loan taken by Reliance Communications Limited from Bank of Baroda, the erstwhile Vijaya Bank, and the erstwhile Dena Bank. Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank have now merged with Bank of Baroda. Following the registration of this case, the CBI searched Anil Ambani's residence and the registered offices of M/s Reliance Communications Limited. Various documents related to this loan transaction were recovered.
