A big announcement from Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav on Olympics: On Sunday, March 8, the Indian team made history. Defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final, India became the T20 World Champions for the third time overall. Suryakumar Yadav is the third Indian captain to win the T20 World Cup, after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Following the historic World Cup victory, Suryakumar Yadav stated that the Indian team's next goal is to win the gold medal at the Olympics.

In a press conference, Suryakumar Yadav called the Indian team's World Cup victory historic, but also talked about the challenges that lie ahead.

The goal is to win Olympic gold

In the same press conference, captain Suryakumar Yadav said, "This victory is very special. But the biggest goal is the Olympics, the Olympic gold medal and winning the T20 World Cup to be held in the same year."

Cricket was first played at the 1900 Olympics, but after 128 years, the game is set to return at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. India won the 2024 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, and since then, India's T20 team has adopted an aggressive approach.

3 ICC Trophies in 3 years

Eleven years had passed since the 2013 Champions Trophy, but Team India's drought of winning an ICC trophy showed no signs of ending. This title drought ended in 2024, when India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final of the T20 World Cup. The following year, the Indian team defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Now, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, Team India has lifted the 2026 T20 World Cup trophy. Next year, the 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
