The Indian Premier League auction has returned to India after three years. For the past three years, the IPL auction was held abroad, but the IPL 2027 auction will be held in Goa. The auction will be held in December. The last IPL auction was held in India in 2023, when Kochi hosted it.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia stated that after three years of hosting the event abroad, the IPL auction is returning to India, scheduled to be held in Goa in December. A few days ago, IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal announced that the auction would be held in India this time.

The 2024 auction was hosted by Dubai, and in 2025, it moved to Jeddah, where the mega auction lasted two days. The 2026 auction was held in Abu Dhabi. Dhumal said that the Board always tries to hold the auction in India, but the wedding season in India is during October and December. Since a mini auction will be held this time, it is being brought back to India.

The auction date has not yet been announced, and the location or hotel in Goa where the auction will be held has also not been disclosed. It is expected that the team purse for the IPL 2027 mini auction could be increased to ₹130 crore.

December isn't far away, and the trade window is already open. It's worth noting that a trade has already taken place between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals for Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav. Pant joined Delhi for ₹15 crore, while Kuldeep will receive ₹13.5 crore from LSG.

Several other major changes are expected for IPL 2027. Stephen Fleming has left the CSK head coach position to become the head coach of the England team. Zaheer Khan has replaced him as the head coach of the Chennai team. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders also need a new captain, as Ajinkya Rahane has retired.
