India Wholesale Inflation: The wholesale inflation rate (WPI) in India has fallen to a two-year low of -0.58 percent in July. It has been in the negative zone for two consecutive months.

India Wholesale Inflation: The wholesale inflation rate (WPI) in India has fallen to a two-year low of -0.58 percent in July. It has remained in the negative zone for the second consecutive month. It was at -0.13 percent in June. This decline in wholesale inflation has occurred due to the reduction in the price of food items as well as the reduction in the prices of mineral oil, crude petroleum and natural gas and basic metals.
Wholesale inflation is continuously decreasing since March
The wholesale inflation rate (WPI) of food items remains in the negative zone of -2.15 percent in July from -0.26 percent in June. According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation has been continuously decreasing since March and has come down to a 14-month low of 0.39 percent in May. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for July 2025 was 0.39 percent as compared to June 2025.
The prices of things increased and decreased so much in July
Data released every month by the ministry shows that the prices of primary commodities rose by 1.18 percent to 188.0 in July. During this period, the price of crude petroleum and natural gas rose by 2.56 percent, non-food articles by 2.11 percent, and food items by 0.96 percent.
However, the price of minerals fell by 1.08 percent. The index of fuel and power increased by 1.12 percent to 144.6 in July 2025. At the same time, there has been a decline in the manufactured product index, which fell by 0.14 percent from 144.8 in June to 144.6 in July.
Apart from this, inflation in food items was -6.29 percent in July, while it was -3.75 percent in June. Inflation in primary items decreased from -3.38 percent in the previous month to -4.95 percent. Inflation in fuel and electricity was -2.43 percent in July, while it was -2.65 percent in June. Along with this, inflation in manufactured products was 2.05 percent in July.
Inflation in vegetables also fell to -28.96 percent in July from -22.65 percent in June. Inflation in pulses was -15.12 percent in July, while that in wheat was 4.40 percent. Inflation in eggs, meat, and fish fell from -0.29 percent in June to -1.09 percent in July. Inflation in potatoes and onions was -41.26 percent and -44.38 percent, respectively.
Wholesale inflation of non-food items was 3.40 percent in July, while it was 2.29 percent in June. Mineral inflation increased from 0.83 percent in June to 1.06 percent in July. Wholesale inflation of crude petroleum and natural gas was -11.15 percent in July and wholesale inflation of crude petroleum was -14.86 percent.
