Just before the 2026 T20 World Cup, the New Zealand cricket team suffered a major setback. Right-arm fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the World Cup due to injury. New Zealand Cricket has named Kyle Jamieson as his replacement.

Adam Milne was injured while bowling during the South Africa Twenty20 League on Sunday. He suffered a left hamstring injury, shattering his World Cup dreams.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said, "We are all saddened for Adam. He has worked very hard to prepare for the tournament and was giving his best for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers. This is a difficult time for Adam, and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Rob Walter praised Kyle Jamieson, who replaced Milne in the team, saying he was a worthy replacement.

"He is a hard-working player with good skills and experience, making him useful for the tournament. It's great that Kyle is already with us in India. He is an important member of our pace-bowling group and has performed exceptionally well on this tour," Walter said.

Jamieson, who is currently part of India's white-ball tour, has been included in the T20 World Cup squad. He was previously selected as a reserve player in the World Cup squad.

31-year-old right-arm fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has played 24 T20 matches for New Zealand in which he has taken 23 wickets.

New Zealand has been placed in Group D for the World Cup. This group includes South Africa, Afghanistan, the UAE, and Canada. The inclusion of South Africa and Afghanistan makes this group a difficult one. New Zealand will begin their campaign on February 8th with a match against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
