A basketball-sized tumor removed from the body of a pregnant woman. Know how the operation was done.

Doctors removed a basketball-sized tumor from the body of a pregnant woman. Doctors said that health checkups should not be taken lightly during pregnancy. Many times, such serious diseases can be detected on time with regular ultrasound and checkups.

Ovarian tumor during pregnancy: A shocking but inspiring case has come to light from New Delhi. Doctors removed a basketball-sized ovarian tumor from the body of a 25-year-old pregnant woman, and the pregnancy remained safe even after the operation. This case is special because performing such a major surgery during pregnancy is a very difficult and risky task.

This woman from Bhiwadi (Rajasthan) was pregnant for the first time. When a routine ultrasound was done in the 14th week of pregnancy, doctors saw an unusual and large tumor in the abdomen. Further investigation revealed that the tumor was attached to the ovary. Initially, it was suspected that it could also be cancer. Being pregnant made choosing the treatment path even more challenging. Doctors had to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby in the womb.

Deciding on high-risk surgery

The medical team of Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dwarka thought deeply about this and then decided to do open surgery. In this operation, along with the tumor, the affected ovary and fallopian tube also had to be removed. During the surgery, the doctors took care that the tumor does not burst and there is no unnecessary pressure on the uterus. This was the reason that the baby did not suffer any harm.

What did the doctors say?

Dr. Sarita Kumari, Consultant in Gynecology Surgical Oncology, said, "The detection of a tumor during pregnancy is a big shock for the family. But it can be handled with timely diagnosis and teamwork. It is unusual for an ovarian tumor of such a large size to occur during pregnancy and its removal was a very precise task. This case is an example of how the impossible can become possible with timely diagnosis and modern medical care."

According to Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Unit Head of Surgical Oncology, only 1 in 10,000 pregnant women develop ovarian cancerous tumors. Ovarian sarcoma is even rarer. Timely diagnosis and the right strategy can save the lives of both the mother and the child.

Women and child health

The woman was discharged from the hospital just three days after the surgery. Investigation revealed that the tumor was ovarian sarcoma, but it had not spread anywhere else in the body. The woman completed the pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby in due course.

Why is this matter important?

Usually, doctors try to avoid major surgery during pregnancy so that the baby is not harmed. But in this case, if the tumor was not removed, it could have become a threat to the mother's life. The doctors saved the lives of both the mother and the baby by performing surgery at the right time. This case shows that even during pregnancy, if the right diagnosis and treatment is done in time, then even the most serious conditions can be handled.
