McConchie scored 31* off 23 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes. Santner also scored 47 off 26 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes. Maheesh Theekshana and Dushmantha Chameera took three wickets each for Sri Lanka.

At one point, New Zealand were 75 for 2, but from there, the Sri Lankan bowlers wreaked havoc, taking four wickets in the space of just nine runs. It seemed New Zealand would barely reach 120, but McConchie and Santner destroyed the Sri Lankan bowlers. 

New Zealand scored 70 runs in the final four overs. At the end of 16 overs, the Kiwis were 98, which increased to 168 in 20 overs. Thus, New Zealand completely took control in the final overs.
