3 Muslim fast bowlers have been excluded from Team India for years; injustice is continuing!

Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik, and Khalil Ahmed have been out of Team India for a long time. Find out when the three fast bowlers last played in ODIs and T20Is.

Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik and Khaleel Ahmed

While new faces are constantly gaining opportunities in Team India's fast bowling lineup, some veterans have been absent from international cricket for a long time. Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik, and Khalil Ahmed are three such fast bowlers who have played for India but are currently out of action. A look at their last international matches reveals a very different picture.

Mohammed Shami is the most experienced of the three. He returned to international cricket in 2025. Shami played his last T20 International against England in Mumbai on February 2, 2025. His last ODI was the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on March 9, 2025. India defeated New Zealand in this match to win the title.

When did Umran Malik last play?

Known for his speeds of over 150 kilometers per hour, Umran Malik last played a T20 International for India against New Zealand on February 1, 2023. He then played for India in ODIs as well. His last ODI was against the West Indies on July 29, 2023. He has not been able to return to the Indian team since.

Khaleel Ahmed's last international match

Khalil Ahmed has been out of the ODI team for a long time. His last ODI was against the West Indies on August 14, 2019. However, he returned to T20 Internationals in 2024 and played in the Sri Lanka tour after the series against Zimbabwe. His last T20 International was against Sri Lanka on July 30, 2024.

The three players' prolonged absence from the team may raise questions about their selection, but it wouldn't be correct to conclude they are being treated unfairly based on these statistics alone. Team selection is based on many factors, including form, fitness, performance, and team needs.
