Apart from this, it is your identity card for many other purposes like Aadhaar, PAN, or Voter Card. If we arrive in another country, our passport is our most tangible form of identity. Every piece of information written on it is considered authentic. Therefore, the Passport Department issues a passport to someone only after a complete inquiry. Actually, there is no age limit for getting a passport. Indian citizens ranging from a 1-day-old baby to 100 years or older can get their passport made.

With an Indian passport, you can travel to 57 countries without a visa. The Henley Passport Index has just announced this ranking. This means that the power of Indian passports is increasing in the world. According to the Henley Passport Index 2023, Singapore is on top and its citizens can visit 192 countries visa-free. Whereas people from Japan can get free entry into 189 countries. A US passport allows visa-free entry to 184 countries.

Indian passports are of three colors
1. Blue (General): This is issued for the general public. It can be both general and immediate.
2. White (Official): It is given to government employees going abroad on official work.
3. Orange (Official Category): It is given to Government of India officers and persons authorized by the Government of India like IAS, IPS officers, etc.

For how many years is a passport valid?
A normal passport is made for 10 years. For persons below 18 years of age, it is made for a period of 5 years or till they attain the age of 18 years. If you are applying for a passport for a 15-year-old child, then you can also get a normal passport made for 10 years.
How to apply for a passport?
Any person residing in any part of the country can apply for Passport Seva by visiting the website of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India (MEA) www.passportindia.gov.in or using the mobile app mPassport Seva. After applying, you will have to go to the regional passport office for documentation verification. There are 36 Passport Offices across the country under which 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and 430 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) are functioning. After submitting the online form, you will have to go to the Passport Seva Kendra and make an online appointment. Reach the Passport Seva Kendra on the given day and time. The passport officer himself takes the applicant's photograph and biometrics while visiting the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).
