These lakes are so popular for their beautiful views and peaceful environment that every year lakhs of tourists come to see their beauty. These gorgeous lakes are surrounded by rocks and lush green meadows. Some of these lakes are famous trekking spots that can be reached by short treks while some other popular lakes are famous as picnic spots.
Parashar Lake
One of the most famous lakes of Himachal Pradesh, it is situated at 2730 meters amidst the Dhauladhar ranges in the north, about 50 km from Mandi. This oval-shaped lake is a mixture of beauty, adventure, and spirituality that mesmerizes and thrills the tourists coming here. Parashar Lake has a circumference of about 300 meters. It has a floating island, and its clear water adds to the charm of this beautiful place. Traditionally, it is believed that the lake was formed as a result of the attack of Rod (Gurja) by sage Parashara and the water came out and took the shape of the lake.
Chandratal Lake
Located in the Lahaul region of the Lahaul-Spiti district, this inaccessible lake is very famous among adventurous tourists with interests like trekking and camping. The diameter of Chandra Tal is approximately 2.5 kilometers and there are vast plains around the lake, which are filled with many types of vegetation and wildflowers in the spring/summer season. Let us tell you that this beautiful lake is one of the two highest-altitude wetlands in India. Another special thing about Chandratal Lake is that this lake is crescent-shaped due to which it has received the name Chandratal.
Dal Lake
Dal Lake is 2 km towards the west of Mcleodganj. m. Is. The lake is surrounded by lush green deodar forests, Dal Lake is famous for its beauty and is a pilgrimage center. The area around Dal Lake is a natural paradise. The area of the lake is around one hectare (i.e. 10,000 square meters). Let us tell you that in September, a fair is also organized on the banks of the lake in which tourists come from far and wide to participate. This event celebrated to mark the presence of Lord Shiva is quite popular among the Gaddi tribe.
Khajjiar Lake
Khajjiar Lake is situated at an altitude of 1,920 meters above sea level in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Very beautiful shadows are visible in the blue waters of the lake of the cedar trees surrounding it. The most attractive thing here is the floating island which is actually a bunch of grass growing on the surface of the lake, which is quite nice to see. Another special thing related to Khajjiar Lake is that on a clear and sunny day, a wonderful view of Mount Kailash is visible from the shore of the lake, which adds to the attraction of this beautiful lake.
Nako Lake
Nako Lake is situated in a small old-fashioned Nako village in Kinnaur. It is located at a distance of 2 km from the famous Hangrang Valley. One of the important features of this lake is that it remains covered with ice for most of the year. This lake is surrounded by four beautiful temples and many trees, which further enhances its beauty.
Snow-covered peaks, rocks and apple orchards are the main attractions of the beauty of the lake.
